Jessica Pegula, currently ranked 4th in the WTA rankings, surprised the tennis world by announcing her divorce from coach David Witt, with whom she achieved the most important results of her career.

Jessica Pegula will no longer be coached by David Witt

At the age of 29, Jessica began working with Witt in 2019, and with the American coach she managed to climb to the 3rd place in the world ranking (as of October 24, 2022) and mark performances in the quarters of all Grand Slam tournaments from 2021 to 2023 year.

“It was a complete surprise to me,” Witt told Tennis.com when asked about his professional split with Jessica Pegula.

“I never expected this. I’ve had a great friendship for five years so it’s really difficult, I really care about my relationship with the players. I was lucky to be with only two female athletes in the last 15 years,” the American coach added.

50-year-old David Witt was coached by Venus Williams before Pegula. The collaboration between them was long, Witt coached Venus in the period 2007-2018.

During her career, Jessica won four WTA titles, all with David Witt: Washington (2019), Guadalajara (2022, WTA 1000 category), Seoul (2022), Montreal (2023, WTA 1000 category).

He played in six other finals: Quebec (2018), Auckland (2020), Madrid (2022), Tournament of Champions (2023), Tokyo (2023) and Doha (2023).

During his career, he had 399 wins and 234 losses, and only tennis prize money received 12,804,026 dollars.
