Rohan Bopanna, 43-year-old champion – doubles triumph at Australian Open 2024

Bopanna teamed up with Australia’s Matthew Ebden at the Melbourne tournament and they reached the final against Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, 7-6(0), 7-5.

Early favorites Rohan and Mathew took one hour and 40 minutes to claim victory.

“It’s been a fantastic week but I’d like to start by congratulating our opponents who gave us a great response. Everyone knows how old I am, so it’s a fantastic feeling to win my first Grand Slam doubles title. It is all the more touching that Matthew is yours (an Australian is not). It was a fantastic atmosphere and I’m glad you received us so well” – Rohan Bopanna.

Know:

  • During his career, Rohan Bopanna reached two more Grand Slam doubles finals (US Open 2010, 2023) and five more semi-finals (Australian Open 2024, Roland Garros 2022 and Wimbledon 2013, 2015, 2023).
  • Martina Navratilova remains the oldest player (male or female) to ever win a Grand Slam title. In 2003, she won the Australian Open mixed doubles (teamed with Leander Paes) at the age of 46 years and 261 days.
