The contract is for the period 2026-2035, and according to the mayor of Madrid (José Luis Martínez-Almeida), the city track will not involve any investment of public funds.
The track is currently at the homologation stage and will also include street sections.
It will have a total length of 5.47 kilometers, have 20 turns and a qualifying lap of one minute and 32 seconds.
The new building will be able to accommodate about 110 thousand fans per day, and the organizers hope that the number will be increased to 140 thousand spectators.
“It will be an extremely interesting urban circuit, far from the traditional concept of special Formula 1 circuits, which are practically in the city, less than ten minutes from the airport. 90% of spectators will be able to get there by public transport.
There will be no investment from public money, there is a public promotion through Ifema (not a consortium of regional authorities), but there will be a private organizer who will take the risks. All funding is private,” – José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid.
According to the mayor, the economic return of the Grand Prix in Madrid could be approximately 500 million euros every year.
Almeida also added that 8,000 new jobs will be created.
