Simona Halep will participate in the 2024 Sports Festival together with Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf
The two-time Grand Slam winner announced on Instagram that she will be participating in the 2024 Sports Festival. The legendary Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf will also attend the event in Cluj-Napoca (June 15).
The exhibition match will take place on June 15 at 18:00 at BT Arena.
“Hey, Steffi, I’m waiting for you in Romania, in my country, with Andrii (Paul – no). I’ve been to the Sports Festival before and it’s great. I am sure you will like it too. I can’t wait to see you in Cluj, at the sports festival” – Simona Halep.
Patrick Siorsila, co-founder of the Sports Festival, explained the decision to invite Simona Halep to the event.
“It is difficult to fully express our joy at the fact that Simona Halep once again took the field, at a demonstration within the framework of the Sports Festival. Simona is well loved in Romania and we can’t wait to see her again.
She is a role model for many fans and young athletes, a source of inspiration through her determination and dedication, and her modesty adds a touch of sympathy and respect to the global tennis community.
She is also a close friend to us, so we are by her side both in good times and in difficult times. I think one thing is certain: we all miss Simona on the court, and we are glad that on Sports Day we can celebrate her passion and dedication to tennis” – Patrick Churchill.

What you need to know about Simona Halep’s doping case
- The news that Simona Halep was temporarily suspended for doping appeared on Friday, October 21, 2022.
- Simona’s case was heard by Sport Resolutions, an independent tribunal in London that hears doping cases in white sport.
-
Halep was suspended for 4 years for two separate violations of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP): the presence and use of the substance roxadustat in a urine sample collected after an anti-doping test conducted at the 2022 US Open (1) and a violation of her biological passport (2).
- Simone has only one appeal: the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
- According to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on its official website, Halep will be heard by CAS on February 7-9, 2024.
- The Swiss court said that the ex-leader of the WTA asked to cancel the decision of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) and “reduce” its sanctions.
- If the 4-year disqualification remains in force, the ex-WTA leader can theoretically return to the tennis court on October 6, 2026. Halep will be 35 years old at that time.
- On August 29, 2022, Simona Halep played her last official match on the world stage. At the US Open, in the inaugural round, our athlete unexpectedly defeated Daria Snigur (at that time, 124th place in the WTA, based on the qualification).
