Spain have officially crashed out of the European Men’s Handball Championship after a dramatic 33-33 draw in their final group match against Austria.

Austria equalized with Spain with 9 seconds left

The match between Spain and Austria turned out to be one of the most interesting and fiercest matches of this final tournament.

Two-time European champions in 2018 and 2020, Spain were eliminated from the competition after conceding a goal with 9 seconds remaining.

France and Germany also provided one of the most spectacular matches of the evening at the men’s WC. The team from the Hexagon defeated Germany 33-30.

What do the EC men’s handball groups look like?

Group A: France, North Macedonia, Switzerland, Germany

Know:

  • The first two places in each group advance to the main groups.
  • The main group matches will take place on January 17-24 in Hamburg and Cologne.
  • The first two places from the main groups will advance to the semi-finals (they will be held on January 26).
  • The finals (small and large) will be held on January 28 in Cologne.
  • Romania last participated in the World Cup in 1996, when they finished the competition in 9th place out of 12 participating teams.
  • The title of European champion is Sweden (the title won in 2022).
