Mircea Tutovan, one of the best Romanian volleyball players, has died at the age of 71, the Romanian Volleyball Federation announced.

Mircea Tutovan, an artilleryman of Europe, died at the age of 71

The one who made history for Romania arrived at the hospital in Zaleu on Saturday evening. A strong infection affected his body, but there were problems with his heart. His son Marius Tutovan announced his death.

Mircea Tutovan is a player who revolutionized Romanian volleyball thanks to the power of his serve. His track record includes the European Champions Cup, as well as 10 national championship titles as part of Dynamo.

In 1977, he received the nickname “The Gunner of Europe”. Then he took third place at the European Championship with the Romanian national team, which was held in Finland. At the same time, the first ideal team of Europe was formed, which included Tutovan, as well as two Russians, two Poles and one Hungarian.

After leaving “Dynamo”, Tutovan moved to “Simleu Sylvania”, with which he won the Balkan Cup. Later he arrived at Elcond Zalău for several seasons.

Tutovan retired at the age of 41. He played more than 300 games for the Romanian national team. He won bronze medals at the 1971 and 1977 European Championships. In addition, at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, with Tutovan, Romania took 5th place.

The “Gunner of Europe”, as the whole world knew him, would have turned 72 on March 13.
