Ranked 93rd in the world, Yastremska entered the main draw after living up to her status as the top seed in qualifying (beating Lea Boskovic, Valentina Grammatikopoulou and Maya Joynt).
The Ukrainian needed only one hour and 16 minutes to defeat Czech Marketa Vondrousova (7th seed) with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Marketa had a nightmare match at John Cain Arena: she committed 7 double faults and served only 5 game-winning shots (Diana’s 26).
In the next round, Dayana Yastremska will beat Varvara Grachova (39 WTA). The athlete, who decided to represent France, overcame the Belgian Yanina Wickmayer (79 WTA) with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
