The Romanian men’s handball team lost its first match at the European Championship in Germany. The tricolor lost to Austria with a score of 31-24.

Austria – Romania 31-24 (15-14) at the European Handball Championship among men

The match between Austria and Romania started under the sign of balance, neither of the two representatives managed to distinguish themselves.

Xavier Pascual’s wards led twice, but the Austrians went to the break with a minimal advantage, the score 15-14.

In the second half, “Austria” prevailed over the “tricolors”, in the middle of the half they had a difference of 5 goals, and the ending brought the opponent an undoubted victory.

Buzle, Hryhorash and Stanchuk were the main scorers in Romania – four goals each.

In the other Group B game, Spain will face Croatia at 21:30.

The CE2024 final tournament will take place from January 10 to 28 in six cities in Germany, with the final taking place in Cologne.

The Romanian national team last participated in the final tournament of the European Championship in 1996, when it took 9th place out of 12 participating teams.

The title of European champion in 2022 was won by Sweden.
