The medical tests that Rafinha underwent on Friday showed that the Brazilian is suffering from a biceps femoris injury in his left leg and will not be able to play in Sunday’s final, Marca reported.
According to a statement from Barcelona, the initial diagnosis made in Riyadh has been confirmed and the player will be sidelined for several weeks.
Rafinha was hurt in the first half of the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Osasuna and was replaced before half-time by Lamin Yamal, who scored the second goal.
The 27-year-old Brazil international has been an essential part of Xavi’s right winger this season, making 20 appearances.
In El Clasico over two days, the coach has several options to replace him: the exit of Lamine Yamal, the replacement of Ferran Torres or a system with four midfielders.
The final of the Spanish Super Cup between Real Madrid and Barcelona will take place on Sunday at 21:00 at the KSU Stadium in Riyadh.
