Britain’s Sam Sunderland was forced to abandon the Dakar Rally in the third stage on Monday due to a mechanical problem with his motorcycle.
Sunderland (GasGas), sixth at the end of stage two, was forced to stop at kilometer 11 of the 400km special between Al-Duwadimi and Al-Salamiyyah.
He waited for more than three hours in the hope that the vehicle would be able to bring him oil before deciding to leave around 10am.
At the age of 34, Sunderland became the first Briton to win the 2017 Dakar on a KTM. He also won the famous Rally Raid in 2022 with the Spanish team GasGas and was among the favorites again this year, according to News.ro.
