The Romanian national football team is among the 24 participants of EURO 2024, the first final tournament in which the tricolors participate after an eight-year absence. Romania won the qualifying group it was in and thus qualified for the tournament’s second-biggest draw when the draw took place on 2 December in Hamburg.

Tricolors avoided fire groups and reached the one from which you can get qualification in the 1/8 finals. Until March of next year, we know only two opponents of Romania. We are talking about Belgium and Slovakia, and at the end of March, after the playoffs of the League of Nations, we will learn the name of the third opponent that we will meet at the European Championship in Germany.

Betano, UEFA’s official sponsor of EURO 2024, calculated the chances of qualifying for each scenario, taking into account Romania’s head-to-head matches with each individual team. We took into account that wins and draws represent qualifying points, i.e. the percentage of wins and draws of the total number of head-to-head matches against each opponent, then we averaged all the percentages according to each group stage.

According to the rules, the top two teams from each group (12 teams) advance directly to the round of 16, along with the top four third-placed teams.

It should be noted that Romania has a 61% to 69% chance of getting out of Group E. The most affordable formula for advancing is the one in which Iceland or Israel will take a contender’s place in the Nations League, with a 69% chance of qualifying. Next would be the group with Bosnia, 62% chances of qualification, and the most difficult group with Ukraine, where the chances of the tricolor will be 61%.

Despite this, Romania has a real chance to pass Group E at EURO 2024.

BELGIUM

With a prize pool of over €400 million, Belgium are favorites to win Group E. 1980 European Championship finalists Belgium have played in six EURO finals and are currently ranked fourth in FIFA. The stars of the team are Roma’s Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, but there are plenty of other valuable players in the squad who play for big European clubs. According to Betano, the Belgian team has odds of 15.00 to win the final tournament, 1.30 to top Group E and 1.03 to finish eighth.

Slovakia has odds of 250.00 to become European champions and odds of 1.80 to reach the round of 16.
