Luca Bresel (reigning world champion) and Mark Selby (four-time world champion) exited the Scottish Open on Wednesday after shock defeats to Martin O’Donnell and Matthew Celt respectively.

Luca Bresel and Mark Selby are out of the Scottish Open

Bresel, who won his first world title immediately after the Selby final, lost 4-2 to Martin O’Donnell (80th).

O’Donnell will face Tom Ford (18th) in the last 16 after the Englishman edged China’s Ding Junhui (11th / 2016 World Runner-up) 4-3.

2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021 world champion Mark Selby (ranked 5) was defeated by compatriot Matthew Selt (ranked 30) 4-3.

Also on Wednesday, Dominic Dale beat Jamie Jones 4-3 after a very good last red ball.

The Scottish Open will be held from December 11 to 17 at the Meadowbank Sports Center in Edinburgh, with a total prize fund of £427,000. The champion of the last edition (2022) is Gary Wilson.

A semi-final appearance is worth £17,500, with the finalist receiving £35,000 and the grand champion £80,000.
