Matteo Berrettini will coach Francisco Roig

Francisco Roig, 55, is a man who could be seen in Rafael Nadal’s box for many years in a row.

He coached the Iberian for most of his career, Roig was with Rafa from 2005 to 2022.

He played in most of Nadal’s major titles and now hopes to help Berretti out of the gray area of his career.

Francisco Roig worked alternately with Toni Nadal, then with Carlos Moya (he was the second coach), and in some competitions he even had the role of captain in Rafa’s team.

The experience gained together with Nadal forced Roig to accept an important role in the box of the Italian Berrettini.

Having problems due to injuries, Matteo Berrettini played only 23 games in 2023: 12 wins and 11 losses. At the moment, the Italian is ranked 92nd in the ATP ranking.

Berrettini’s highest world ranking was #6 at the start of 2022. He has 7 career titles and has collected $11,546,845 in tennis prize money alone.

At the Grand Slam level, the best results were: the 2021 Wimbledon final (lost, of course, by Novak Djokovic), as well as the semi-finals of the 2022 Australian Open (defeated by Rafael Nadal) and the 2019 US Open (also defeated by Nadal).

It will be recalled that earlier Berrettini was coached by Vincenzo Santopadre from his junior years. This year they went their separate ways.
