The San Antonio Spurs snapped their 17th straight NBA loss, 82-93 against the Houston Rockets, despite a strong performance by Victor Vembanyami, the young Frenchman who hopes to become the next big name in basketball.

San Antonio Spurs, 17th NBA losing streak

The 19-year-old Vembanyama had 15 points, 18 rebounds and 3 assists, but his team couldn’t avoid another loss despite getting as close as four points in the final quarter (81-77).

Thus, the San Antonio Spurs lost 17 consecutive games, a new negative record in franchise history. He recorded the previous one only last season (16 defeats).

The Spurs, winless since Nov. 2, sit in last place in the Western Conference before taking on the Los Angeles Lakers (Wednesday and Friday).

The Detroit Pistons haven’t been doing much better this season either, snapping their 20-game losing streak with a 123-131 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
