Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku managed to qualify for the 2024 European Championship and became the previous match’s top scorer with 14 goals, breaking the record held by Healy and Lewandowski.

Romelu Lukaku, the best scorer in the history of qualifying matches of the European Championship

After scoring four goals in just 20 minutes in Belgium’s win over Azerbaijan, Lukaku took his tally to 14 goals this campaign.

The record belonged to Northern Ireland’s David Healy and Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, both with 13 successes, the UEFA website reports.

The performance is all the more important as Lukaku has scored 14 goals in just eight games, starting with a hat-trick against Sweden.

The striker, on loan from Chelsea to Roma, is in enviable form. In 14 matches for the Italians, he scored 9 goals.

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo remains the all-time leading scorer in previous European Championship matches with 41, having also scored 10 times in the current campaign.
