27-year-old Joiskim Dava, central defender of FCSB, gave a detailed interview to Gazeta Sporturilor, in which he also discussed the problem of racism in our country.
- In September, Dava published a series of racist messages he received after being sent off in Hermannstadt’s 2-2 draw with FCSB. Among those who lashed out at him was current footballer Robert Stanici of Cetatea Turnu Magurele. This moment caused a stormy reaction in the football world from AFAN, FRF and other Super League players.
– Regarding the episode of racism after the Hermannstadt game, do you think it is a general problem in Romania?
– Racism is a big problem in all football, not only in Romania. This is a very, very big problem in football and in sports. We are all humans, not animals, skin color doesn’t matter.
– What do you think is in the mind of those who stoop to such insults?
– Sometimes people can’t control themselves, and it’s very sad… After all, it’s about football! We can’t win all the time, sometimes you lose. We are human, we can play well, we can play badly, but that is no reason to come and say something about black players or football players of a different religion.
– How much can such a case affect you?
— This can affect athletes. Not for me, but for my family in such situations. My family used to ask me, “Why do you play for these people who insult you when you play badly, when you lose?”. Unfortunately, this also happens in Spain, we see what is happening with Vinicius of Real Madrid, and in France, a country more developed than Romania, with many cultures.
