Hungary mathematically qualified for the final tournament of the 2024 European Championship after a frantic performance in Sofia and an own goal scored by the Bulgarians in the last minute of extra time.

Hungary qualified for Euro 2024 thanks to an own goal

The match between Bulgaria and Hungary, which took place without spectators at the Vasyl Levski Stadium in Sofia, ended after a spectacular game with a score of 2:2.

The Hungarians opened the scoring in the 10th minute thanks to Martin Adam, but equalized 14 minutes later after Delev’s goal.

In the 37th minute, the Bulgarians dominated, Valentin Antov received two yellow cards.

Hungary did not relax, and in the 57th minute numerical parity was restored, Kerkez took the ball out of the visitors.

The ending was incendiary. Bulgaria took the lead thanks to Despodov’s goal from the penalty spot, but in the last phase of the game, Petkov headed the ball into his own net after a mistake by Naumov.

The earned point sends Hungary to Euro 2024 ahead of the final against Montenegro, while Bulgaria remains bottom of the group without a win.
