Rares Canea will play for Romania, Mihai Stoicice said

Konstanz-born Canea was signed by Bayern Munich in 2014 from youth club TSV 1860 Munich. The centre-back represented Germany at U17s but the FRF claim to have persuaded him to represent Romania.

“He was the captain of the German national team in U17, Rareș Canea. He is the captain of Bayern Munich. I communicated with his family, invited them to us, at the FRF, together with the president, and talked with them. They told me: “Yes, sir, we agree to play for Romania.”

I’m waiting for him to play in the first match against “Bayern” and then we will call him to the Romanian national team. He is U20, born in 2004, central defender. The junior captain of “Bayern” suffered a knee injury, but now he is back” – Mihai Stoichitsequoted by DigiSport.

According to Transfermarkt, Rares Dumitru Canea is valued at €100,000.

The announcement comes days after Daniel Boloka (Sassuolo) said he regretted playing for Romania and said he wanted to represent Italy.
