At the end of October, Spain aired a new episode of the “very successful series” of El Clasico, the live sports series pitting La Liga’s arch-rivals FC Barcelona against Real Madrid.
The 255th of the two legendary bands was an impressive moment for fans of rock music as well.
The famous band Rolling Stones, who seem to carry the legend into eternity, promoted their new album right at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. In the stands, choreography was shown with the famous Rolling Stones logo (“lips and tongue”), the sign of which was also displayed on the Catalans’ T-shirts.
The unprecedented connection between these two colossal brands in sports and music respectively is made possible by the partnership that Barcelona has with the Spotify app. Two members of the rock band Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood were also present at the match.
The match got off to a good start for the hosts and the Catalan crowd had a moment of celebration. In the 6th minute, Ilkay Gundogan scored, who also scored at halftime. But in the end, those who bet on the visitors won, as Real Madrid broke the deadlock thanks to Jude Bellingham, who scored in the 68th and 92nd minutes. After these goals, the final result in the table was Barcelona. – Real Madrid 1-2.
Barcelona, in the rhythm of top music
It is not the first time that the Barcelona players have promoted musical creations sponsored by Spotify. The main commercial partner of the club created such a special moment last year as well. The players then displayed the logo of Canadian singer-songwriter Drake and the emblem of Motomami, the latest album by Spanish singer Rosalia, during the previous two matches of the El Clasico series.
The current project, dedicated to the release of the new Rolling Stones album, also involves the women’s football team FC Barcelona. In the F-League with Sevilla, players were given t-shirts with the famous logo of the rock band founded in 1962.
Hackney Diamonds – an album released after an 18-year hiatus
The Rolling Stones celebrated the release of their new album, Hackney Diamonds, with an event planned in London, presented by Jimmy Fallon, a famous entertainer from the world of entertainment.
After an 18-year hiatus, the band decided to present their 24th studio album to the public, returning to strength at a time when fans were probably no longer expecting new original content. The Hackney Diamonds album launch took place at the Hackney Empire, a historic theater located in London’s Hackney district.
The 12 new tracks are the first album since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021. Mick Jagger revealed that two tracks were recorded with the late Watts in 2019, including the track Live by the Sword.
Studio recordings began in December 2022. “We recorded 23 tracks quickly and finished them by January and then finished the mixing process in February,” explained the iconic Rolling Stone Stones singer, now 80.
The promotion alongside FC Barcelona, one of the most popular football teams in the world, follows another unprecedented move. In a London newspaper, the band published a bogus advertisement for a window repair firm called Hackney Diamonds. The text of the advertisement referred to several well-known songs of the group and hinted at a connection with the Rolling Stones brand.
