In the first game of the match between Romania and Serbia, Gabriela Ruse won 7-6(2), 6-3 against Mia Ristic.

The first set was played on counterattacks, with twists and turns and reached a tie-break, where the Romanian won clearly: 7-2.

Ristic started the second set better, but Ruse equalized, and four straight games eventually earned Romania its first point.
