Nicolas Samajoa (28), central defender of Politehnica Iași, tells Gazeta Sporturilor how he graduated from college in the United States and what Romanian dish he would eat every day.
Nicolas Samajoa (28 years old) is the first player from Guatemala to play in the Romanian championship. The Iasi Polytechnic centre-back has only been in Romania for a few months and says he has adapted well to the Moldovan lifestyle. He likes the food here, and he thinks the biggest similarity between us and Latin Americans is the number of churches.
– Hello, Nicholas! How do you feel in Romania?
– Hello! I am very well and it is a really amazing country! Iasi is great and I love that you have a very safe country. The weather is great and you have very nice people. I expected you to be a little colder, but you’re very friendly, and that’s saying something. I’m glad that people know English, it made me adapt very quickly.
– You said that you expect people to be a little cooler. Did you have other prejudices?
– Apart from that, I really had no other prejudices. I knew almost nothing about Romania when I arrived. All I knew was that it was in Europe and that Dracula was from there. ha ha ha! I expected it to be colder, but found it quite warm. In addition, I was surprised that everything is modern and clean.
– How do you like traditional food? Have you tried anything yet?
– In the club, we eat traditionally, and there is also barbecue. I really like small ones with bread and mustard. I have also tried sarmales but small ones are better!
– Did you manage to visit something in Iasi? This is a city with many monuments and churches.
– Look, my wife came a few weeks ago. I’ve been to a few places and it’s a really great city. I liked to see people who are very relaxed, who can have a coffee in the afternoon or a beer on the terraces. The culture is definitely different from Latin America, but I like it. I fell in love with the area of Palas and Kopu.
