Mircea Lucescu got the impression that he quit football forever after resigning from “Dynamo” Kyiv, but the 78-year-old coach came with clarifications and said that “it is very possible that we will see him again on the technical bench”.

Mircea Lucescu says he hasn’t retired from football: “I don’t want to believe it’s the end”

“Il Luce” announced that he will spend some time with his family and explained that if his health allows, he will continue training.

“We are not very sure that this is the last moment. It’s time to make a decision. I have been here for three years, the conditions are extremely difficult, the war.

There came a point where we had to think about keeping someone younger, closer to the age of the players who are very young. The decision I made was made earlier.

I thought it was time to retire and take on all the latest results. There comes a point when a coach of my age has to sacrifice himself and leave someone else in his place. I wanted to play this match against Shakhtar. I would like to finish by beating them. But I think I did very well.

I need to go home too. In a coaching career, you end when you lose. Everything has an end. I thought this was an important time to say stop.

If my health allows, I will continue. Because life is not life without football. I return home, see how I feel at home, I have grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I will stay for a while, then I will see what happens.

When I think I’m not going back to football, then that’s the end. I don’t want to believe that this is the end. So don’t hide me! Just kidding!

It is very possible to see me on the technical bench. Let’s see! I have two more days in Ukraine, then I return home.

I am proud that I did not leave Ukraine when everyone left here. I am motivated by only one thing – my passion for football. I drive myself” – Mircea Lucescu for Digisport.

Mircea Lucescu ranks second in the list of the most titled coaches in the history of football. “Il Luce” has won 35 trophies in his career and is level with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who is only surpassed by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson with 50 trophies.

In his career, Mircea Lucescu coached “Corvinul Hunedoara”, the Romanian national team, “Dinamo” (Bucharest), “Pisa”, “Brescia”, “Regiana”, “Rapid” (Bucharest), “Inter”, “Galatasaray”, Besiktas, Shakhtior Donetsk, Zenit. Petersburg and the Turkish national team.
