​At a press conference on Wednesday, several members of the “Golden Generation” announced the “farewell match”, a match that will take place 30 years after the quarter-finals played on American soil at the World Cup.

The event on Wednesday was attended by Gique Popescu, Ionuc Lupescu, Ilie Dumitrescu, Florin Prunia, Gheorghe Mihali and Adrian Ilie, all former members of the Golden Generation.

• During the Golden Generation, Romania played at the 1990 World Cup (eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Ireland on penalties), at the 1994 World Cup (eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sweden, also on penalties), at Euro 1996 (not eliminated in the groups) at the 1998 World Cup (Croatia was eliminated in the 1/8 finals) and Euro 2000 (Italy was eliminated in the quarterfinals).
