​Casper Ruud stopped in the 1/8 finals of the Shanghai Masters tournament, the three-time Grand Slam finalist was defeated in three sets by Fabian Marozan (91st ATP).

Casper Ruud defeated by Fabian Marozan at the Shanghai Masters

China’s eighth seed Ruud lost to the Hungarian 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-4 after two hours and 40 minutes of play.

We remind you that Ruud reached the finals of three major tournaments: US Open (2022) and Roland Garros (2022, 2023), as well as in the last act of the Champions Tour (2022).

Know:

  • Marozhan will fight for a place in the semifinals with the winner of the match between Poland’s Hubert Gurkacz (18th favorite) and China’s Zhizhen Zhang (60 ATP).
  • Marozsan produced one of the biggest surprises of the year in the men’s race. In his first participation in the ATP tournament (Rome Masters), the athlete from Hungary defeated Carlos Alcaraz.
  • Thanks to the run in Shanghai, Marozsan makes a significant jump in the ATP Live ranking: he is in 65th place (the best ranking in his career). If he reaches the semi-finals, Fabian will enter the world top 50.

The Rolex Shanghai Masters takes place from October 4 to 15 on hard, is part of the ATP Masters 1000 category and has a total prize pool of 8,800,000. The titular champion is Daniil Medvedev (2019). The last editions did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
