Funded and supported by the Superbet Foundation in partnership with the Romanian Chess Federation, the Superchess team had a strong presence in this year’s edition of the competition.

Outdoors, the team consisting of Vichy Anand, Richard Rapport, Kirill Shevchenko, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Constantin Lupulescu, Volodymyr Fedoosev, Jorden Van Forest and Bohdan Dyk managed to go undefeated until the 7th round, but the moment of weakness from the match against last year’s champion ” Novy Borom” after a dramatic result in the last round of the competition, our compatriots took the 5th place.

Women’s Super Chess shone during 7 rounds, managing to end this edition with a “golden” victory for Romania.

In the last round of the competition, Iryna Bulmaga, Dinara Wagner, Marcel Efroimski, Nino Batshiashvili and Elin Rebers managed to overcome rivals from Garud Aik with a score of 3.5-2.5 after 5 fiery games of our team. The team advantage was secured by Dinara Wagner and Marcel Efroimski, whose victories were a ticket to the first place on the podium for our representative.

With 6 wins and one loss, Superchess became the first Romanian team to win the European Chess Club Cup, a historic result for Romanian chess.

Thanks to this success, Romania strengthens its position as an important pawn on the world chess map, having managed to attract important players to perform at the club and national team levels.
