Lyudmila Samsonova reached the grand final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, the athlete from Russia defeated Elena Rybakina (winner of Wimbledon-2022).

Lyudmila Samsonova in the WTA finals in Beijing – defeated Elena Rybakina for the fourth time

Samsonova and Rybakina met for the fourth time at the WTA tournament, and Lyudmila won every time.

Olena (5th seed) lost after an hour and 41 minutes of play to the Russian, who is ranked 22nd in the WTA rankings, 7-6(7), 6-3.

Rybakina was beaten even on her serve, where she is usually better than her opponents. Samsonova scored 7 aces (only 4 for the representative of Kazakhstan), while both players committed 4 double faults.

  • Samsonova will fight for the trophy with Iga Svyatek (2 WTA). The two players have met each other twice, with the Pole winning each time: 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5 in Stuttgart 2022 and 6-1, 6-0 in Dubai 2023.
  • This will be the seventh final in the Russian’s career. Samsonova won in Berlin (2021), Tokyo, Washington and Cleveland (2022), but lost in the last action in Abu Dhabi and Montreal (2023).
