Simone Biles became the most decorated gymnast in history, the American won the gold medal in the individual all-around on Friday at the world championships in Antwerp.

Biles won with a score of 58.399. Simone was first in the finals on vault, beam and floor, and placed sixth on bars.

The podium was completed by Brazilian Rebeca Andrade (titled champion) and American Shilize Jones.

Romanian Ana Berbosu finished in 23rd place with 50.165 points. She made mistakes on floor and parallel bars, but performed better on vault and beam.

Know:

  • For the first time in history, three athletes over the age of 20 climbed onto the podium. Three black athletes also took the podium for the first time.
  • Biles, who won her first world title also in Antwerp (10 years ago), has 27 world medals (21 gold) to her credit.
  • Biles has 34 world and Olympic medals, the most of any gymnast (male or female). She was ahead of Vitaly Shcherbo (Belarus – 33 medals).
  • World champion and co Team USA, Biles has four more shot put finals. Romania will be represented by Sabrina Maneka Voynya in the floor final.
