
FC Argesh announced on Friday on their official Facebook page the death of Dorel Zamfir, a former Pitesti player, at the age of 62.
Born on 30 September 1961 in Viseu de Sousse, Zamfir has developed throughout his career as a right midfielder.
He played for FC Constanta (1977-1979), Dinamo Bucharest (1980 – 1982), Steaua Bucharest (1982), FC Arges (1983 – 1989), Gloria Bistrica and Flacar Moreni.
In 1981, he also made five appearances for the Romanian U20 national team.
Zamfir was part of the so-called “kangaroo generation”. We are talking about the bronze medalist of the Romanian junior national team of the 1981 World Cup.
Other important names who were part of the “kangaroo generation” are Gabi Balint, Romul Gabor, Ioan Andone or Mircea Rednik.
In total, Dorel Zamfir made 250 appearances in Division A and scored 24 goals.
