Everyone can play sports, but the sports business is not for everyone and it is not an easy task. It is often said that sports entrepreneurs take more risks and can lose quickly. Many of them are former athletes, perhaps because they have a better understanding of what it means to try to make money in this field.

In addition, as former athletes, they use qualities important for successful entrepreneurship: perseverance and a competitive spirit. At Hotnews.ro and StartupCafe.ro, we are looking for video stories with entrepreneurs who have invested money, not necessarily directly in sports, but in sports-related activities.

Some still come with money from home, others cannot do without volunteers. Some have SRL, others public organizations. Famous performers, even champions, stand behind some initiatives. Others are the common names of investors.

“Entrepreneurs in Sports” is a mini-series of videos shot in Bucharest, as well as in several other cities in the country. The first episode about an Olympic champion, a group of volunteers and an international marathon that appeared after many years of running in the capital’s parks.

Over a decade and a half of persistence, Bucharest Running Club has kept Bucharest on the running map in Romania and around the world. In October 2023, professional marathon runners or simple casual runners will gather again for a new test of their abilities.

Valeria Rasila van Groningen has done this test about 25 times in as many marathons and half-marathons around the world, but she doesn’t tell you about it in the video.

Valeria and her fellow volunteer Laurenciu tell you how the Bucharest Marathon became a passion, a tenacity, a team, but above all, an urban crowd of tens of thousands of people who came together in running shoes.
