Nottingham Forest and Burnley complete the 5th leg of the Premier League survival derby, with both teams looking to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Nottingham Forest finished last season – their first in the Premier League for 23 years – in 16th place, managing to save themselves at the last moment, and have invested €122 million in transfers this summer.

The 2021 side, coached by Welshman Steve Copper, have started the season well and have six points from four rounds, despite playing just one match at home: 1-2 with Arsenal (d), 2-1 with Sheffield United (a), 2- 3 with Manchester United (d) and 1-0 with Chelsea (d).

The club was bought in 2017 for £50m from Kuwaiti businessman Fawaz Al-Hasawi by Greek billionaire Evangelos Marinakis, a controversial businessman and politician who also owns Olympiacos (previously investigated by UEFA for match-fixing in the Greek league).

Burnley were promoted this summer after finishing top of the Championship (they dominated the competition, ten points clear of second-placed Sheffield United and 21 points clear of third-placed Luton, who won the play-offs for promotion), but the situation has changed radically changed in the Premier League.

Former Belgium international Vincent Kompany’s side are yet to pick up a point in their first three league games despite playing only at home, 0-3 at Manchester City, 1-3 at Aston Villa and 2-5 at Tottenham (they still have a backlog of ” Luton”, away).

In addition, Burnley’s only win this season was on the road against Nottingham Forest, 1:0 on August 30 in the second round of the English League Cup.

In the Championship, the two sides last met each other in the 2015-16 Championship season when they drew 1-1 in Nottingham, with Burnley winning 1-0 at home in return.
