Biochemist Dr Dorel Tochitu said the theory of Professor Jean-Claude Alvarez, a French expert who said WADA had convicted an innocent person, was irrelevant in the case of Simona Halep. In addition, he believes that the ex-leader of the WTA approached the issue incorrectly, choosing a fight against some “colossus”.

Dorel Tochitu and the case of Simona Halep: “Someone beat the lab with a positive B sample?! Never!”

The head of the service of biochemistry and training technologies of the National Institute of Sport Research in Tochito compared the situation of the Romanian with Maria Sharapova, explained that only the athlete is responsible for the substances found in his body, and said that the former WTA leader would be suspended for a shorter time “if they cooperated”.

What Dorel Tochitu says, according to an interview with Gazeta Sporturilor

  • It is difficult to digest this, but it is not necessary to judge according to the rules of the courts. Doping control has different rules. That court was now arguing a bit about what it was about. I said from the beginning that it was a mistake to start fighting these giants.
  • We look at what others have done before. When Sharapova was caught with meldonium, she said: “What? meldonium? Well, I’ve been on this stuff for 16 years! Aoleo, is this on the list this year? I didn’t even know. I was drunk since the New Year, when I looked at the banned list in February, it was too late.” You know?
  • Do you know what the rules say? The athlete is responsible for any substance in his body. And that’s it, we’re done! That he is guilty, that he is innocent, that he took the substance with plum magic, it does not matter! The rules there are different from the rules in a criminal court.
  • It was the wrong strategy from the start. And now there is. Okay, TAS can take note and lower the suspension a bit. But it will be difficult, because even now everything will be like this. “Look, you’re right, you’re innocent, but you have to answer us a few questions. Who recommended this substance to you and how did it get into your body?”.
  • I read about Monsieur de la Paris (No Professor Jean-Claude Alvarez). I said this theory then, but that’s the end of it. Then you could say so. The person in charge of dietary supplements was dumped by a girl, he found out that she was a famous tramp on the Internet, he cried that he had a super hit, and he had two types of substances on his desk. The drugs he was supposed to give Simone and the roxadustat he was taking to keep himself from suffocating from anger. Because she was crying and couldn’t see well, she gave Simona roxadustat. This is a person who takes responsibility, and when asked how the substance got into the athlete’s body, the answer appears: “Look, this scoundrel gave it to me.” Then you ask him if he didn’t know what he was doing. “I didn’t know, I was angry, my girlfriend left me. It was a mistake and there was nothing I could do to fix it.” The conclusion is that he is kicked out of the sport for life, he takes some money and that’s it. They found the culprit, found how he got there, the athlete is innocent.
  • First question, why would you buy supplements from China when we know China has serious problems starting with HGH?! Why not take a cleaner supplement?! Do you really want to get them from China?!
  • 51 blood tests are done in the hope that if there is something in the athlete’s favor, the decision will be made in the athlete’s favor.
  • Not every laboratory can talk about doping. Only what the accredited labs say matters, and these labs you’ve seen what they’ve said. Okay, the French professor said, “According to my method, I have detected contamination.” The accredited laboratory said: “We did not find any according to my accredited methodology.”
  • The value is only what the accredited laboratory says, let’s find out. Others should simply consult with us so that she (not Simona Halep) can understand how the substances got into her body. He’s got some tough questions to answer, and he shouldn’t be asking his lawyer or professor, but the thugs themselves. Do you understand what I’m saying?
  • “Ask them! Dr. Fuentes (not Eufemiano Fuentes, embroiled in a huge doping scandal in cycling and athletics) is a big one if you want to ask. And you are a big name, you can open many doors for some specialists, of course, in quotes.” But at the end of the day they are specialists too, don’t think they are a draw. Nobody’s niece is from France, where he went. He found a friend who said to him: “Let me recommend you! The teacher speaks, he gets you out of trouble.”
  • Sharapova did not deny anything, she even said: “I don’t just take it, I take it for 15 years.” Suddenly there was another judgment. Since you are questioning the labs… Has anyone beat a B positive lab?! Never!
  • How can he not know what he is being given? There are 14 tablets in front of him. He asks: “What are you giving them to me for?”. Well, it’s for collagen, it’s for tangle-free. Of course, it is easy to deceive him, the athlete does not have the opportunity to check and do analyses. He doesn’t even have time. Then he goes with people he trusts. Some prepare it for the day when the test is positive. What do you say that day? And he repeats it every day so that he doesn’t stutter that day. He doesn’t wait, he knows he did something wrong. But, I repeat. Any doping substance found in an athlete’s body is the athlete’s own fault. Even if the greatest doctor gave him.
  • Who gave them to you? This and this. If you cooperated, then you say that there is no question about the athlete, he was in the hands of the system. The system makes money. Then the athlete receives one and a half years of disqualification, and a year remains for the appeal. But when you started fighting against accredited labs…
  • Do you think they are sleeping peacefully?! Everyone jumped up: “Why don’t you make a verdict, sir?!” Well, I don’t give because they think too. The idea is that Simone didn’t go where she was supposed to from the beginning. And from what I read, even now it didn’t go where it should.

Know:

  • The news that Simona Halep was temporarily suspended for doping appeared on Friday, October 21, 2022.
  • Simona’s case was heard by Sport Resolutions, an independent tribunal in London that hears doping cases in white sport.
  • Simone has only one appeal: the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
