Novak Djokovic triumphed at the 2023 US Open to reach 24 career Grand Slams, and the reception he received in Belgrade moved the ATP leader to tears.

Serbia had an excellent start to September in terms of sports. In addition to the title won by Djokovic in Flushing Meadows, the Ukrainian men’s basketball team became the vice-champion of the world (losing to Germany in the final with a score of 83:77).

Tens of thousands of people celebrated in Belgrade, and Nole could no longer hold back tears and sobbed in front of the crowd. He was also honored with the lighting of the “Kula Belgrade” tower.

  • Novak Djokovic overtook Carlos Alcaraz and is the world leader as of Monday.
  • Djokovic broke away to the top of the hierarchy of won Grand Slam titles. With 24 major trophies, the Serb is ahead of rivals Rafael Nadal (22) and Roger Federer (20 – retired from tennis).
  • Novak has 96 titles (24 Grand Slam tournaments – a record), and Daniil Medvedev has 20 trophies left (one Grand Slam tournament – US Open 2021, right after the final with Djokovic).
  • It was Novak Djokovic’s fourth Grand Slam final in 2023. The Serbian won the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the US Open before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final at Wimbledon.
  • Djokovic has played ten US Open finals and won four: 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
