Aryna Sabalenko justified her status as a big favorite and reached the quarterfinals of the US Open 2023, and the Belarusian clearly defeated Daria Kasatkina (ranked 14 in the world).

Sabalenka, who will rise to the top spot in the WTA rankings after the tournament in Flushing Meadows, needed just an hour and a half to defeat the Russian 6-1, 6-3.

Aryna turned out to be more aggressive and did not give her opponent a chance: she scored 31 winning shots (only 7 against Daria) and won almost every time she approached the goal.

Daria won three of her four return games but struggled on her serve, and the powerful Belarusian took full advantage, winning 79% of her points on the Russian’s second serve (Aryna had seven breaks in total).

Aryna Sabalenko will fight for a place in the semi-finals with Qinwen Zheng (23 WTA), after the Chinese surprised by beating Ons Jabert (5th favorite).
