Sorana Kirstja made history on Sunday and qualified for the quarters at Flushing Meadows for the first time, defeating Belinda Bencic in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

After a 14-year wait, Sorana Kirstea produced her career-best Grand Slam performance by reaching the quarterfinals of the 2023 US Open.

Sorana (WTA 30) cruised past Olympic champion Belinda Bencic (WTA 13) in straight sets after a match with plenty of errors from the Swiss.

In the quarterfinals, our athlete will meet the 10th ranked player in the world, this year’s Roland Garros finalist, Karolina Mukhova.

The quarters presence at Flushing Meadows is also a first for rival Sorana.

In the 1/8 finals, Mukhova beat Xinya Wang (53 WTA) in three sets with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. During the competition, the Czech also knocked out Storm Hunter (158 WTA), Magdalena Frech (77 WTA) and Taylor Townsend (132 WTA).
