Coco Gauff made it to the second round of the US Open, but the match against Laura Siegemund was very difficult for the young American, who also argued with referee Marjana Velovic.

Annoyed by Laura Siegemund’s procrastination, Coco Gauf argued with Marijana Velovich

Gauff, the No. 6 seed, took almost three hours to defeat the German 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

After a surprise loss in the first set (Siegemund hitting impressive shots and winning many points at the net), Koko came back and took the lead.

With the score 3-0 in the deciding set, Gauff approached Marijana Velovich and complained about how her opponent was trying to knock her out of rhythm, as well as the fact that the chair umpire was not interfering.

“She’s never ready when I serve. The timeout has expired 4 times. You only punished her once. How can that be right? Call the score 6 seconds after the end of the point.

I play at normal speed (no Siegemund said that Gauff plays “extremely fast”). Ask any judge here. I was silent the whole match, but now it’s funny. I don’t care what she does at her job, but at my job she has to be ready” – Coco Gauf.

A few minutes later, Laura was penalized a point for delays, and Coco went 5-1. A worried Sigemund asked Velovich: “Can I take my towel now?”

The American lost her serve once again, but eventually finished the match after two hours and 51 minutes of play.

In the second round, Coco Gauf will play Mirra Andreeva (16 years old). The athlete from the USA defeated the talented Russian at Roland Garros with the score (5) 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.
