The Iberian woman, who is ranked 95th in the world, defeated the Russian Kateryna Alexandrova (22 WTA, favorite 4) in the final with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Aleksandrova led 6-3, 4-2, but the Spaniard held on, winning four games in a row. The Russian was the first to prevail in the rematch and in the decisive set (3-1), but this time too she failed to take advantage and lost her serve three more times before the end of the match.
Sara was eliminated in the last round of qualification by the French Clara Burel (62 WTA), but entered the main draw as a “lucky loser” and defeated Kateryna Sinyakova (47 WTA), Veronika Kudermetova (16 WTA), Sloane Stevens (38 WTA) and Tatyana Maria (49 WTA).
