
Gabriela Ruse reached the main draw of the US Open after defeating Diana Yastremska in qualifying for the final Grand Slam of the year.
Ruse, who is ranked 166th in the WTA ranking, beat the athlete from Ukraine (111th WTA, 12th favorite in the qualification) in two sets, the score 7-6(5), 6-3. The game lasted one hour and 49 minutes.
Gabriela led 5-2 in the first set, missed two set points at 5-3 and two more in the tiebreak, but eventually managed to win.
There were not so many emotions in the second set: the Romanian broke away, Yastremska regained the break (3-4), but in the very next game she lost serve again.
