Holger Rune failed to complete his first match in the ATP top 5 as the Dane was injured and exited the Cincinnati Masters in the second round.

Holger Roon was injured at ATP in Cincinnati

Holger led 4-3 in the first set of the match against Mackenzie MacDonald (43 ATP), but complained of lower back problems and was forced to retire after five straight losses (the American led 6-4, 2-0 ).

This is Run’s fifth loss in a row. The 20-year-old also suffered defeats against Carlos Alcaraz (Wimbledon), Leandro Riedi, Richard Gasquet (Hopman Cup) and Marcos Giron (Toronto).

Also on Wednesday, Borna Corych (champion title) was defeated in three sets by Pole Hubert Gurkach (20 ATP) with the score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
