The WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal was without two more favorites after the last matches of the second round: Maria Sakkari (8) and Beatrice Haddad Maia (11) were unexpectedly eliminated from the competition.

Maria Sakkari and Beatrice Haddad Maia are eliminated in the second round of the WTA Montreal

Sakkari (a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist and eighth seed) lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to American Danielle Collins, the world No. 48.

Beatrice Haddad Maia (14th seed) also lost to Leila Fernandez 5-7, 7-5, 3-6. The player from Canada won after almost three hours of match.
