Gzira advanced to the second preliminary round of the Conference League after 28 shootouts

After a 2-2 draw in Malta, the hosts missed a penalty in Belfast through Bobby Burns (’18).

Gzyra opened the scoring through Lucas Makula (’67), but Burns (’90+13) responded to take the game into extra time for Glentoran.

Neither team scored again, but 27 penalty kicks followed. With the score 12-11 in favor of Gzira, the goalkeeper David Kassar (Gzira) was happy too early: he first shot back, but was not careful and the ball hit the goal.

Leon Boyd, a 17-year-old, missed the hosts’ 14th shot and the match ended with Malta qualifying.
