While on holiday on an island in Croatia, Edwin Van der Sar, former Dutch goalkeeper standout, collapsed unconscious and was rushed by helicopter to a local hospital.
After a week in intensive care at a hospital in Croatia, Van der Sar was transferred to the Netherlands, where he will remain in intensive care for some time.
In a statement posted on social networks, the Amsterdam club “Ajax” provided new information about the health of the former goalkeeper.
“Edwin was repatriated from Croatia on Friday and is currently in the intensive care unit of a Dutch hospital.
The condition remains the same: stable, no threat to life, communicative.
Van der Sar’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for the excellent care they provided him during the last week.
Edwin must remain in intensive care where he will be further investigated and the family hopes he can focus on his recovery,” Ajax Amsterdam announced.
