Mirra Andreeva lost to Madison Keys at Wimbledon-2023

The Russian (came from qualifying) was leading 6-3, 4-1 but lost her serve and Keys (25th seed) took the second set in a tiebreak.

Madison, who dictated the tempo in the first part of the match, was much more accurate in the deciding match, serving well and managing two breaks.

The American hit 39 winning shots (14 for the Russian) and made 40 unforced errors (21 for Mirra).

At a very important moment (5-2, 40-40 in the deciding match) Mirra won a point after hitting the ground racket. She told the umpire that she slipped and the racket slipped out of her hands, but the decision stood and Keys was awarded match point.

Know:

  • Keys had her best performance since Wimbledon (she also reached the quarterfinals in 2015) and will face the winner of the match between Kateryna Alexandrova (21) and Aryna Sabalenko (2).
  • Thanks to the course at the All England Club, Mirra Andreeva will rise 38 positions in the WTA ranking, up to 64th place.
