Comparable to the legendary Eddy Merckx (34 Grand Loop stage wins), Cavendish fell 64 kilometers before the end of the eighth stage and damaged his collarbone.

The Brit boarded the ambulance with tears in his eyes as he looks to retire from cycling at the end of this season.

Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) won the sprint in the eighth stage of the Tour de France, which took place on Saturday between Libourne and Limoges, at a distance of 200.7 kilometers.

The Dane was followed by the Belgians Jasper Filisen (Alpecin-Beceuninck) and Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), while Jonas Wingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) remains the leader of the general classification.
