Simona Halep is awaiting a verdict after being heard by the Sport Resolutions tribunal in a doping case, with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reacting to the former world leader’s lawyers asking her not to be suspended.

ITIA, firm answer in the case of Simona Halep

The lawyers of the two-time winner of the “Grand Slam” presented several arguments, according to which the decision in the doping case of Simona Halep should be one in favor of the Romanian.

Simona pleaded not guilty after testing positive for Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open.

As “Prosport” reports, Simona’s lawyers motivated the use of a prohibited substance as “accidental doping as an unintentional form in which the prohibited substance Roxadustat contaminated the nutritional supplement used by Simona Halep.”

The explanation filed in the lawsuit for the consumption of Roxadustat comes from contamination with a drug called Evrenzo.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency responded to the arguments of Bohdan Stoica and Howard Jacobs (Simon’s lawyers) and emphasized that the athlete from Romania bears full responsibility for the use of these nutritional supplements.

“Any female tennis player who takes dietary supplements does so at her own risk. That’s exactly what Halep did when she took roxadustat-containing supplements and was therefore at risk of being sanctioned by the Tennis Anti-Doping Program.

Simona Halep is responsible for conducting her own research on the use of supplements. ITIA does not recommend any supplements. Any player using dietary supplements does so at their own risk.
