Neymar was fined 3.3 million dollars for the construction of an artificial lake
Mangaratiba City Hall has imposed four fines for “environmental violations during the construction of an artificial lake at the player’s villa,” the council’s secretariat announced in a statement.
“The sanctions amount to more than 16 million reais ($3.3 million),” it said, the amount set by the prosecutor’s office in Mangaratiba, a tourist area about 130 kilometers from Rio where the Paris Saint-Germain star owns a villa.
Among the “dozens of detected crimes”, the authorities named “unauthorized carrying out of works subject to environmental control”, unauthorized taking and draining of water from the river and “unauthorized removal of land and vegetation”.
Neymar has 20 days to appeal.
On June 22, after complaints on social media, authorities discovered a series of environmental violations at a luxury property where workers were building an artificial lake and beach.
Authorities closed the venue and ordered all activities to stop, but Brazilian media reported that Neymar had a party there and was swimming in the lake.
Neymar’s press office in Brazil did not respond to AFP’s request for comment.
Neymar, 31, is currently recovering from surgery on his right ankle, which he underwent in Doha in March. The striker has not played since February, and there are doubts about his retention at PSG, writes News.ro.
