Iga Svaitek, eliminated before the WTA semifinals in Bad Homburg

The WTA leader attributed the withdrawal to medical problems: a fever, but also possible food poisoning.

The Italian Bronzetti will benefit from this defeat and will compete in the final of the WTA 250 tournament.

“I’m really devastated, but I have to lose my match today. I had a restless night with a fever and possibly food poisoning.

I can’t perform today and I have to take care of myself. I hope I will feel better soon” – Iga Svyatek.

Kateryna Sinyakova (52 WTA) and Ludmila Samsonova (15 WTA) meet in the other semifinal at this time.

The Bad Homburg Open is the third edition of the WTA 250 grass court. The first two were won by Angelique Kerber (2021) and Caroline Garcia (2022).

Currently the winner of four Grand Slam tournaments (Roland Garros 2020, 2022, 2023 and US Open 2022), Iga is the leader of the world rankings.

In the first round of Wimbledon-2023, the Pole will meet with Zhu Lin (33 WTA).
