Karolina Pliskova and Beatrice Haddad Maia were eliminated in the 1/8 finals of WTA Eastbourne

The 2017 and 2019 Eastbourne champion Pliskova (18 WTA) won the first set of her match against Daria Kasatkina 6-3 but lost the next 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted two hours.

Kasatkina (11 WTA, favorite 9) will play in the quarters against the winner of the match between Ana Bohdan (61 WTA) and Caroline Garcia (5 WTA, favorite 2).

Over the past three seasons, Daria has qualified for the quarterfinals in five grass court tournaments – she is the only WTA player to do so.

Also on Wednesday, Beatrice Haddad Maia (13 WTA) was forced to retire as she led 6-4, 3-2 against Petra Martic (30 WTA).

The athlete from Croatia will fight for a place in the semifinals with the winner of the match between China’s Xia Wang (73 WTA) and American Madison Keys (25 WTA).

The tournament in Eastbourne belongs to the WTA 500 category and offers a total of $780,637 in prize money. The title champion is Petra Kvitova. It will be held from June 26 to July 1.
