Manchester City announced their first transfer of the summer on Tuesday after a dream season in which they won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
Mateo Kovacic joined Manchester City from Chelsea
Pep Guardiola has lost Ilkay Gundogan, a footballer who is out of contract and has decided to sign with FC Barcelona.
Croatian Mateo Kovacic was seen by City chiefs as an ideal replacement in midfield and talks with Chelsea have concluded, with the Londoners set to receive around €30m.
In a statement posted on the club’s official website, the “townsmen” announced that Mateo Kovacic signed a four-year contract.
“This is a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started at City. To join this team is truly the dream of any football player,” said the Croatian midfielder.
In five years at Chelsea, the 29-year-old played in 221 games and managed to win the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and European Super Cup.
He made 95 tackles for Croatia, being an important part of the team that reached the finals of the 2018 World Cup. Mateo Kovacic is valued at €38 million.
