Annette Kontaveit has announced via social media that she has made the difficult decision to retire from tennis at just 27 years old. The player from Estonia, who previously held the 2nd place in the WTA ranking, came to this conclusion because of back problems.

Kontaveit announces that she is ending her career as a professional athlete at the age of just 27. The reason is physical: major back problems (no lumbar disc degeneration).

“It is impossible to continue at the highest level in such a competitive field.

Tennis has given and taught me a lot, and I am very grateful for that.

It was important for me to carry the flag of Estonia on tennis courts all over the world and to have the opportunity to play in front of my supporters and fans all over the world,” says among other things Contaveit on Instagram.
