Miheite Plešan: “Romania in the third world of football”

Romania have collected 7 points from the first three games of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament, but the hard work starts now.

On Monday evening, the first representative team under the leadership of Edi Jordenescu will compete against Murat Yakin’s Switzerland.

Former player of the Romanian national team, Miheitse Plešan, talked about the situation Romanian football is going through.

“We don’t need to live in the past anymore. We have to see, since we didn’t qualify for the final tournaments, we have to see what the Romanian teams are doing in the European Cups. And that’s where you have to start. Unfortunately, we are still dreaming and not doing anything healthy.

I think it’s very good if we get a point. Why can’t we? It is difficult, but we must believe in our chance. We are fighting with Israel and Kosovo for 2nd place, this is a reality. This is the level. We are in the third world! It’s true. It is sad. But this is reality. If something doesn’t happen soon, it will only get worse.

Playing in Kosovo is radically different from playing in Switzerland. In Kosovo, it was necessary to play and build. With Switzerland, if you do that, you won’t stand a chance. If you want to play fair, you have no chance. We will come back with many goals. If we close and play on the counterattack, maybe we will have a chance” – Mihaita Pleshanfor gsp.ro.

At the age of 40, Plešan played seven matches for the Romanian national team, scoring one goal (he played for the first team in 2003-2007).
